Fic in a Box 2025
Aug. 24th, 2025 10:51 amHello, and thank you for considering writing something for me! I'm happy with fics of any rating. I'm aguntoaknifefight (swirlingvoid) on ao3. Fandoms, pairings, and worldbuilding tags are organized alphabetically. Thoughts on mediums I’ve only requested in one fandom are with the prompts in that fandom; otherwise, they’re at the end.

Requested Medium Thoughts
DNW: setting change AUs*, unrequested trans headcanons for canonical characters, unrequested omegaverse, unrequested vertical/cross-generational incest, on-page sex with a character under 16 (or species equivalent; discussions of solo or paired sexual exploration or CSA prior to this age are fine)
*defined here as changing the location and/or time period of canon; pre-canon, future fic, or adding tropes to the setting are all fine!
Stylistically, I particularly enjoy:
General themes I particularly like:
The Elric Saga
Arioch/Elric
I love Arioch; he's so amoral and delightful. Please subject Elric to him, in whatever form that takes. I particularly like the tension over Elric's loyalty, where he is very dependent on Arioch but not enthusiastic in his loyalty, while Arioch finds him amusing to toy with. I will never be over the fact that Arioch canonically calls him “surely the sweetest of all my slaves” and Elric is constantly describing Arioch as beautiful even when he's otherwise all business. I am very into Arioch forcing Elric to admit who he belongs to or otherwise perform loyalty, particularly in a public setting or in front of Elric's allies.
Regarding pin-up art, look at him. The official covers are halfway there already!
Any gender of Elric (cis or trans) is welcome, as are any genitals/gender presentation for Arioch.
The Inheritance Cycle
Transfem headcanons are welcome for either (or both) Eragon and Murtagh!
Eragon/Murtagh
There are so many flavors of relationship between these two over the course of the series, and all of them are good. Their initial roadtrip is the happiest point between them for a while, and then there are so many complicated feelings after Murtagh is captured/defects and they realize they’re related. I also adore how psyched Eragon is for Murtagh to come stay with him at the end of the book Murtagh.
I really enjoy how scared Murtagh is throughout much of the series and how mean it can make him, even as he’s still desperate for Eragon to recognize him as a brother. Likewise, I enjoy how Eragon is extremely adaptable to basically whatever the series throws at him. I’m open to any level of involvement for Saphira and Thorn short of actual sexual contact between humans and dragons; I really enjoy the psychic dragon bond and my favorite flavor of it is "platonic but extremely intense and weird to outsiders." (Background Saphira/Thorn is okay to include.)
I am also fascinated by an AU where they were both raised as Morzan's sons in Galbatorix's court (whether or not Eragon's actual parentage is any different). How does it alter their dynamic? Do either of them become Riders?
Eragon/Murtagh & Brom
All of the above applies here as well, but I’d love to see an AU where Brom didn’t die and ends up actually interacting with Murtagh. What is their dynamic like? What is Eragon like in a universe where he still has someone he can turn to for answers about being a Rider?
Crossover: Interview with the Vampire/Vampire Chronicles
This type of crossover really appeals to me in the “character is forced to reckon with perceptions of themselves or their relationships” sense. I’ve seen both seasons of the show and have read IWTV, TVL, QotD, and TVA, but am fine with you pulling from other parts of canon — if it helps make the fic stronger, don’t worry about spoilers. Additionally, discussions about or background depictions of non-requested ships, including Louis/Armand, Louis/Daniel, Lestat/Armand, Marius/Armand, and Claudia/Madeline, are completely fine! Nonbinary, transfem, or ambiguously “Some Type of Gender Happening Here” Armand is also welcome.
Fandom-specific DNW: IWTV Armand identifying as Catholic (or any Christian denomination). Both IWTV and VC Daniel as vampires in a fic where they appear (though both being human is completely fine!). I’d also prefer IWTV Daniel to not remember the entirety of his history with Armand at the beginning of the fic. If writing ageplay, the specific words ‘daddy’ or ‘dad’ as titles from IWTV Armand.
VC!Armand/IWTV!Armand/VC!Daniel/IWTV!Daniel
I think if you locked these four in the same room under the right conditions, you could get at least three of them to have an identity-related meltdown within a week.
I nominated this as a / ship, but I’m not opposed to that being fulfilled by attraction that exists but isn’t acted on (eg. pre-slash), depending on what you feel works best. I am here primarily for the drama. I also particularly like D/s dynamics between Armand and Daniel, whether or not they're acknowledging that's what it is (I prefer VC Daniel as a sub but have no preference for IWTV Daniel, and like both Armands as switches).
Some optional prompts:
IWTV Armand (/ or &) VC Armand
Essentially the same as above, but without the added factor of Daniel. Armand is someone who struggles with holding onto a concrete sense of self or identity, so what does being faced with a version of himself from another universe do?
(Watch Blade Runner together, potentially. Or try to kill each other. Or have really, really ill-advised sex.)
I’ve requested this as both a / and & relationship, so feel free to write whatever version of their dynamic you’d prefer. Any era for each Armand is welcome!
IWTV Claudia & VC Armand
These two are only three years apart, physically, and I find their struggles with being eternally-teenaged really interesting. I would love to see them interact, particularly given how their respective canon feelings range from uninterested to outright antagonistic! (They’re also both CSA survivors, though I don’t know that either of them considers themself such.)
Interview with the Vampire
Fandom-specific DNW: Claudia/Louis or Claudia/Lestat which the reader is meant to assume actually occurred (welcome as speculation or assumption by outside parties, including extensively in mediums which would lend themselves to rumor, such as true crime podcast transcripts)
Louis de Pointe du Lac & Original de Pointe du Lac Descendants
I would really, really love to see the reaction of any DPDL descendants to the publication of the in-universe Interview with the Vampire. Did the story of Louis being possessed(???)/seduced by the devil(???) get passed down? Is it just the name which rings a bell, and as the descendents look deeper into it they realize that parts of it are wholesale based off their dead great-great-etc. uncle? (Maybe because someone recognized Grace and Paul’s story in it?) Was one (or more) of the descendants a fan prior to this? Is somebody an undergrad or high schooler doing a family history project that googling for took a weird turn on? I would particularly love an exploration of the sick kind of feeling that comes with your family history being cherrypicked for a journalist’s breakdown/last gasp at relevance/bizarre swing into fiction and being in the dark about the book being published, whether or not they end up learning this isn’t what happened. (Also, I’m using DPDL descendent broadly here! They don’t have to know each other either.)
And then on the other side: Louis. Did Louis start keeping tabs on his family again as the Internet made it easier, the way he did with Daniel’s work? (Has Armand been keeping tabs on them?) Is there an impulse to reach out? To hide? Communicate via pseudonym? I’d just love to see how it develops, particularly if all the involved DPDLs are dealing with similar feelings of betrayal (if not from the same cause).
(Any combination of IWTV or VC canonical ships as well as Louis/Daniel are welcome for this request.)
Solo: Claudia
I am fascinated by Claudia’s eternal youth, particularly when she’s frozen in such an awkward transition stage between child and woman in this canon and the ways in which she records but does not become a narrator of the story we’re told. I’d just love to see Claudia throughout the decades and living her daily life (whether or not you handwave her death). Is she ever able to attain the privileges instead of just the costs of being an adult? I also love that brief look at the trio in the folklore of New Orleans/true crime circuit in the final episode of season two, and I’d love to see more of that — what is the reaction to Claudia after the book is released?
The opening of my Dear Festividder letter contains my preferences for fanvids, if that's helpful.
(The underage DNW applies specifically to Claudia’s chronological age here; she can have sex on-page while being physically fourteen.)
The Magnus Archives
Fandom-specific DNW: Jon intentionally written as allosexual (though he can have sex with Elias and does not have to explicitly say [or know] that he's asexual).
Jon/Elias
This pairing is so appealing to me for the gothic vibes. Every season offers a slightly different dynamic, and I find the season three period particularly interesting, because it’s the point where Jon is aware that a struggle for power exists and begins to come into his own. I find the pairing appealing for the way it offers a view of a monstrous transformation which is not judged by the other person (and is in fact actively encouraged) — this seems like a wonderful avenue for stained glass. I like Jon as both a reluctant monster, who is doing his absolute best to find a non-existent moral solution for his food supply, and as someone who gives himself over into it and is perhaps able to find some peace in it.
Elias treats Jon like a lamb for slaughter, and I am fascinated by the real affection he has for Jon while at the same time he deliberately shapes him into something that will serve his own purposes. I love how delighted he is in MAG 102 when Jon unthinkingly uses his powers, and when Jon compels him in MAG 92. I like this as a point of tension in their relationship, particularly in season 3 and 4 where Jon is really struggling with maintaining his humanity. I’d love to see something where Jon is able to get the upper hand, or gets a moment of comfort from Elias (particularly in season four or five where it’s rough going with the other staff). ← I love how fucked up everybody’s interpersonal relationships get in the pressure cooker environment of the Archives/end of the world.
I can easily see either Jon or Elias having Reddit accounts, and I think there’s potential for a very fun You’ve Got Mail-esque plot there. Social media in general seems like it would be great for Beholding, and I would love to see anything you can come up with for in-universe posts.
Solo: Agnes
It is the ruling principle of TMA that your choices are what matters: how does this apply to Agnes, who was literally born as an avatar?
I’d love to see literally anything from her perspective, as she’s someone who is very much constructed by (very biased) others in canon. What does she think about things?
How does she relate to the Desolation, and how does she relate to other people? She killed people very early in life, and was very much raised in a cult — how does this affect her? What was her childhood at Hill Top Road actually like? (I would honestly take a whole middle grade book about Agnes’ time as a child in the ’60s.) Did she feel like a child, or did she always feel like something separate? Does she like what she’s doing — if not, was there ever a point where she did, or tried to? How does she feel about the other entities/avatars, and the jockeying for power with the rituals? How does she actually feel about her suicide? Is it truly solely love or solely doubt which caused it? How does she feel about being bound to Gertrude?
I imagine this could be quite grim, but I would also take something where she gets to be happy, even if just for a little bit!
I’m fine with either gen or shipfic (particularly Jude/Agnes, Gertrude/Agnes, Jon/Agnes, or Annabelle/Agnes)!
WB: The Magnus Institute Throughout History
What does it actually take to keep the Magnus Institute running for 200 years on a practical level? How and when do departments and hiring practices change? Does the outward-facing mission they give to the public/employees not in the know ever change? Is there a particular decade of struggle or triumph?
WB: The Magnus Institute’s Reputation in Academia
Their reputation is poor, sure, but specifically in what way? What about before the statements were leaked in 1999? Does the Institute produce research? It has a wealth of historical documents; do any undergraduates (or professional academics) use it as the basis for their papers? (Can I see the papers?)
The Silmarillion
Trans headcanons I've opted into: trans man Curufin, transfem Maeglin (binary or nonbinary), Celegorm of any gender. Sauron being either any gender of nonbinary or a man On Purpose is also welcome, though YMMV on if the latter is (narratively or on a character level) transness or not. I am fine with Curufin being the parent who gave birth to Celebrimbor so long as that pregnancy isn’t occurring on page. (Also, they aren’t requested characters, but trans man Feanor and trans Galadriel (of any gender) are also extremely welcome.)
Fandom-specific DNW: Rings of Power (TV)-specific elements, contemporary real-world Anglophone labels for queerness within the text (labels are very much okay to include in tags or other metadata), divorce as a possibility for ending a relationship between Elves (permanent separation fine), miscarriage (abortion welcome)
Annatar/Celebrimbor
This is my ultimate “The love was there. It didn't change anything. It didn't save anyone. But the love was there” pairing because the love being there makes things feel so much worse. I love interpretations where the relationship is (wildly unexpectedly for Sauron, who thinks feelings are for other people) genuine and affectionate, and then Sauron still goes through with choosing power anyway!
Please give me your headcanons for worldbuilding where necessary! I’m very open to anything regarding Celebrimbor in terms of where and when he was born, who his mother/other biological parent is, his level of complicity in the first kinslaying, and how much he knows or suspects about Sauron. I would also be really, really interested in how LaCE gets navigated for this pairing and/or how the relationship is publicly presented. (Are there Thingol and Melian comparisons? How much does Sauron resent them?)
Various Aredhel relationships (Aredhel/Celegorm, Aredhel/Celegorm & Maeglin, Aredhel & Maeglin, Aredhel & Indis)
I love Aredhel as a woman who is simultaneously morally compromised (kinslaying) and sympathetic (everything else). I’d love to see some of her relationships!
I feel like Aredhel and Celegorm get each other on a level that other people don’t. Has she followed in Orome’s train in the past alongside Celegorm? How did they initially click with each other? How long did it take post-Helcaraxe for Aredhel to speak to him again?
For Maeglin’s involvement, the most obvious option here feels like a fic set either post-fleeing Eol (perhaps someone recognizes this is a situation that is going to get dangerous and decides Eol doesn’t get marital rights, actually?) or in fourth-age Valinor post-reembodiment. How does Celegorm view Maeglin? How does the incest impact Maeglin, if he’s aware of it? What are Aredhel and Celegorm like with each other?
For Aredhel and Maeglin without Celegorm, I’d be really intrigued to know how Aredhel interacts with Maeglin after they’re re-embodied. Maeglin is violent towards Aredhel’s niece in a similar way that Aredhel has experienced — do they deal with this at all? Does him being her son and someone she has protected for years override that? Alternatively, what did that protection during his childhood look like? Which stories did she tell him, and how much Quenya did he actually learn (enough to integrate quickly into Gondolin)?
For Indis, I’d honestly just love to see them interact! What’s their relationship like? Do Indis’s children and grandchildren live in the palace in Tirion? Did Indis teach her how to draw?
Celegorm/Curufin & Celebrimbor
I want so badly to see what their relationship was like prior to Celebrimbor leaving the family entirely. I tend towards thinking that Curufin was a decent father except when it came to the Silmarils, and it’s Celebrimbor seeing that they’re willing to get (more) family killed which causes him to go, because he doesn’t after the first kinslaying. Do Celegorm and Curufin make any effort to hide the incest from him? (I feel like it’s something that makes its way into the rumor mill and eventually ballad form and no one necessarily believes, but…) What are the good times like? Where are the points of conflict that explode, and what doesn’t get brought up until after it’s already too late? Huan can also be involved in this dynamic as much as you’d like!
Celegorm/Curufin/Finrod
I’d love to see the powder keg of Nargothrond before it gets lit up! This is one that intrigues me because all three of the duos within it have such intriguing dynamics happening. How open is this relationship and who stands to lose the most if it’s exposed? How accurate is the narrator of the Silmarillion about what’s happening politically in Nargothrond prior to the quest? Was Finrod close with and/or in a relationship with either of them prior to C&C fleeing to Nargothrond?
Celegorm/Curufin/Dior
I am so intrigued by them! They’re all well-matched enough to kill each other (and there’s so much history and pre-existing sexual obsession between them and Dior’s parents, which I imagine Dior certainly feels heavily). I'd love something where sex is an extension of politics and the tension between the Noldor and the Sindar (and am therefore fine with this involving a significant degree of hatred between C&C and Dior, though I’d prefer that wasn’t the totality of the emotions). For this, I’d prefer Dior to be over the age of majority (though I’m fine with his relative youth/inexperience being played up as well as much being made of the fact that in another universe Celegorm could have been his father), but I really don’t have a preference towards consensual sex or dubcon. If it is consensual, my big question is: How? How did they get here? Did someone have the bright idea to attempt an arranged marriage to stabilize the political situation prior to the second kinslaying (which...worked, somehow)? Have they all been re-embodied in Valinor and are now working out their issues in a way the Valar probably didn't predict? Are they roleplaying their deaths? (Does this turn into a different kind of roleplay?) Are Celegorm and Curufin already together, or is Dior an acceptable proxy for desire?
Curufin/Dior
All of the above applies here as well, but I have managed to talk myself into really shipping these two as a duo as well. Really the only thing we know about Dior is that he’s proud and I’d love to see how that runs up against Curufin’s personality. (While the Book of Lost Tales is not canon to the Silmarillion, I would love to see a version of the scene from it where Curufin goes in person to try to convince Dior to give up the Silmaril.)
Elrond Peredhil & Elros Tar-Minyatur & Maedhros & Maglor
I'm so intrigued by the tiny snippet of their life together we get in the Silmarillion. What does "love grew after between them" look like on a day-to-day basis? Where is Maedhros in the equation? I love undercurrents of unacknowledged trauma and the weird gray space Maedhros and Maglor exist in in relation to the twins. I’d really love to see the four of them once they’re fully settled into the new normal. Is there ever a point where Elrond or Elros resents that the love does exist and cannot be dismissed in a way which would allow for easy compartmentalization?
Elves can’t get sick, but can E&E? Is there ever a moment where they’re seriously concerned one or both of them is going to die? What do they do?
If you’d like to write something sad, I’d love to see what the actual moment of letting the twins go join the army looked like. Did M&M go with them until they got to the camp? Was it planned for a long time or a spur of the moment thing on precisely when it would be? Who was reluctant and who was excited (or both)?
I’d also love to know if the dialogue we get in the Silmarillion itself between M&M comes from Elrond, because it seems like it very easily could. Does the writer of the in-universe Silmarillion sit him down for an interview/oral history? How consciously is Elrond shaping the narrative of what his captivity was? How much does he need to emphasize that he did love Maglor and Maglor loved them, and what is external pressure pushing him to believe? Is it easier once the war ends, because then M&M are no longer active threats to the rest of society and Elrond can work to rehabilitate their image? What is Elrond leaving out because it’s too complicated for public consumption? If Elros ever gives a similar type of interview — or even a private conversation with his family in Numenor — what does he say about the same stretch of time, and how does it differ from Elrond’s account, particularly after he has his own children?
(I’m okay with as many of the four of them being dead as the plot or timeline demands; Maedhros/Maglor is also welcome as part of this, as well as the Complicated Fucking Feelings that would probably come with either of the twins knowing about it.)
Elwing & Elrond Peredhil
I would particularly love to see their relationship after Elrond comes to Valinor following the Lord of the Rings. Are they able to figure out how to be mother and child when they had that relationship for probably six to eight years followed by so much separation and loss? Is Elwing able to find some measure of peace in talking about the loss of Elros with Elrond? What does Elrond actually remember about her?
Indis / or & Míriel Þerindë
I’m particularly interested in this post-Miriel’s death, whether the relationship is one-sided from Indis or after Miriel eventually decides she does want to be re-embodied. (I feel like the Valar would allow this, so long as Finwe is dead? Miriel and Finwe have just sort of swapped places, so no one alive is married to two people at once.) What do they like about each other? How do they deal with both of them living in the shadow of a Miriel who no longer exists? What do their children and grandchildren (etc.) think? Do either of them sketch?
Míriel Þerindë & Any Member of the House of Finwë
I am fascinated by Miriel as someone who is literally writing the history of her family, but who is largely voiceless within it. Are there particular descendants she gets parasocially attached to? Are there some she visits in the Halls of Mandos? If she decides she wants to be alive again, who seeks her out? (I really am happy with this being anyone, but if you’d like suggestions, I’m always intrigued by if whether or not Miriel’s death is publicly or privately understood as suicide, and what impact, if any, that has on her family members who also struggle with suicidal ideation and/or kill themselves.)
Sauron & Tar-Míriel
I’d really love to see Tar-Míriel’s thoughts about Sauron in Numenor; is she as much of a Cassandra figure as history remembers her as? Is she jockeying for power as much as she’s allowed? What is daily life in end-times Numenor like?
WB: Cross-Species Pregnancy
I’m interested in both canonical and non-canonical children. AFAIK, all of the cross-species children we see are the result of a “more powerful” woman and “less powerful” man. Why? Is this a gap in the record or a biological rule? How does that translate to other species? I'm interested in both the biological process of pregnancy and cultural traditions surrounding it.
WB: Disability in Elvish Societies
While Elves highly value beauty and symmetry, they are hardy, long-lived, and involved in quite a few conflicts across the Ages. Presumably a high number of Elves are going to survive injuries that would kill a human. Where, then, are the disabled Elves? (I'm interested in both congenital and acquired disabilities, as well as both physical and mental disabilities.)
WB: Elvish Funerary Customs
What do they do with the bodies? (Cremation, burial, something else?) How does this change in Cuivienen/Valinor/Beleriand? What gets carried forward through the Ages and what doesn't? What do mourning traditions look like? How does this differ for the various groups of Elves?
WB: Queerness in Elvish Societies
I am really, really interested in this, particularly as something that does not 1:1 mirror current understandings of gender and sexuality. What cultural stories/methods of being exist for various queer people? How does that shape queer identities, particularly the boundaries or lack thereof between ones we might consider completely different? Having children is textually such a big part of marriage that it feels implausible to me that same-sex marriage would exist, but is there a lot of homosociality that may or may not shade into romance and sex, even if it’s not understood as that? (Also, for Elves who are in relationships with Maiar, is there a belief that Maiar reflect the gender of their Vala/r? Is this true?)
How does the belief that the body reflects the soul and not the other way around impact trans people? Will their bodies start to spontaneously transition? Is medical or magical transition seen as an affront to Eru’s work? If so, is social transition acceptable? How does this impact nonbinary people? How does transness impact people’s ability to inherit (since women don’t seem to be in the running for kingship)? Can they marry only if they’ll be able to produce children with their spouse? Do any specific nonbinary identities exist?
Finally, LaCE (which you do not have to interpret any of this through) implies Elves are by default demisexual. How does this impact any of the above, particularly characters who are aromantic, who are gay, or who continue to not feel sexual attraction after marriage? Also, what behavior counts as sex, in a world where LaCE applies? (More questions about aspec characters and/or LaCE can be found in my Innumerable Stars 2025 letter directly below this one in my journal, if you’d like.)
WB: Vairë’s Tapestries
I’d really love to see the creation of some of these tapestries, as well as how any characters who would have a reason to be in the Halls of Mandos interact with them after they’re created. How accurate are they, particularly for scenes or people they don’t have a first-hand witness for? Is there a specific type of stylization they use? (If you can worldbuild the tapestries for me through the medium of an actual tapestry, I will give you my firstborn.)
The Time Master Series
Here’s a link to my promo post with where to find the books!
Any gender of trans Cyllan is welcome, as are any genitals for Tarod and Yandros as gods.
Cyllan/Tarod/Yandros
Honestly, I’m just intrigued by how this could play out. I envision this mainly as a poly-V centered on Tarod — neither Cyllan nor Yandros seems like they would be willing to give up their relationship with him. However, I am really intrigued by what a Cyllan/Yandros axis would look like, particularly once she’s no longer in the comfortable ‘worshipper’ box. It seems like he doesn’t mind Tarod having casual sex with humans, but is that different when she’s no longer one? Is the transition away from humanity an easy one for her? (See below for my Tarod/Yandros thoughts.)
Tarod/Yandros
This is a dynamic that drives me completely insane. The supposed villain going “we’re two sides of the same coin, you’re more like me than you think, you’ll understand eventually,” and then he’s just actually right. (Not in every aspect, admittedly! But the personal ones.) The entire time I was reading this series, I was expecting a third act betrayal from Yandros, and I am so charmed that did not happen. Yandros ultimately chooses Tarod and defers to his decision, even though he doesn’t necessarily agree with it.
I'd love to see Yandros's perspective on any of the scenes where he's talking to Tarod and isn't managing to win him over; I imagine it must be very frustrating. He’s fairly restrained about how much he misses Tarod in canon, but it’s such a disturbing and relatively long-lasting separation, compared to what they've done before. I also think there's a lot of potential for interaction in the time between books one and two, where Tarod has trapped himself in a completely empty castle that he's wrenched out of time. They literally can't get the plot moving, so what else is there to do?
I very much enjoy watching Tarod wrestle with his morality, and I would take truly so many words of it. If Yandros ever does decide to try seduction (whether or not he’s told Tarod that they’re siblings), how does Tarod take it? I would love to see him muddling through confused feelings, particularly if dream sex or shapeshifting is involved.
Post- (or pre-)canon with them both as gods is welcome as well. What are they like when there’s no misunderstandings? (If you’re interested in writing smut, I think they have had the absolute weirdest sex, at least half of which is completely unintelligible to the human brain as such.)
I love outside POV and this is a canon I think it works very well for, as humans either don’t remember or understand much about Yandros and Tarod (either as people or as gods). I think we should toss (confirmed? rumored?) incest/displays of affection into the mix and see what happens.
I have read both the prequel and sequel trilogies as well, so feel free to pull in canon from there if it's helpful and don’t worry about it if it isn’t. (I particularly enjoyed Yandros and Tarod attending human parties incognito together at the beginning of Star Ascendant.)
WB: Laypeople’s Religious Practices After Equilibrium
We see a lot of institutional worship over the course of the series, but what does it look like for your average person? How would it change going forward into Equilibrium? What does the average person actually know about the gods, either of Chaos or of Order? What do any texts produced look like?
For the fan music medium, I’d love to hear anything! What does religious music sound like in this universe? What does popular music sound like? Are there any ballads about Tarod, Cyllan, and/or Yandros which are set to music?
WB: Any
Go nuts! One thing I’m particularly curious about is how naming works for the lords of Chaos and Order — the followers of Order only know Aeoris’s (and IIRC the reverse is true in the prequel trilogy, where the followers of Chaos only really refer to Yandros unless they’ve met Tarod). While Tarod and Yandros obviously have names (and Tarod really is his name as a god, as he’s named something different originally by his mother), they never refer to any of their other brothers individually.
Requested Medium Thoughts
Annotated Map: This seems like such a cool way to tell a story! For TMA, I think the tunnels beneath the Institute or the Institute itself would lend itself well to being mapped like this, while Elric is constantly traveling and having weird adventures.
CYOA (all): I love when characters make choices! I love when those choices open up new possibilities! I love seeing the butterfly effect, I love when characters die but I don’t have to be sad at the end of a fic because in another branch they don’t die, I love trying things again and again.
Dress-Up Doll (online or paper): For IWTV, this very much feels like a literalization of what Claudia’s childhood was; I love how careful the costume department was to tell the story of her age through her clothing. For the Elric saga and Time Master, both central characters feel like — or are, in Elric’s case — the playthings of beings far more powerful than they are. (However, I also just really like the chance to put characters in pretty outfits; the thematic reason is really just a bonus.)
Fanart Cover/Illustration of Recipient's Fic or Fancomic of Recipient's Fic: I’ve tried to select fandoms where I’ve written fics with strong imagery. My ao3 is linked at the top of the page, but for ease of finding things: the Elric saga, the Inheritance Cycle, the Silmarillion, and Time Master.
Fanmix with Liner Notes: I really enjoyed 8tracks in its heyday, and I’d love a similar feeling here! Any style of music works for me, but the lyrics tend to be my central focus. I love when they’re accidentally super relevant in a specific way or when they describe a central preoccupation of the character. And I love when you tell me about the connections you see, in any form! Why this song, and why place it here?
Logic Grid Puzzles: I like doing puzzles and these feel like canons that would easily lend themselves to that format!
Medieval Illumination-Style Art & Medieval Illumination-Style Illustration of a Scene From the Recipient's Fic: I love when art looks like it could have come from the canon that it’s depicted!
Papercraft: These are fandoms where characters are nonhuman and their designs are very striking! (Or can be, in the case of the Silmarillion.) I admire the delicacy of papercraft immensely. I also love patterned paper for non-skin elements.
Reddit Posts: For canons where the Internet does not exist, I prefer the existence of Reddit to go completely unexplained. I really enjoy these as a way to see how characters will tell a story, and how they (intentionally or otherwise) bias it. I also enjoy when they say deeply deranged things and expect the reader to gloss over them because it’s not the point of the post.
Scripts/Screenplays: These are all fandoms with a strong emphasis on dialogue and excellent character voices that I’d love to hear more of!
A Softer World (art or panels): What I really love about the Softer World style is the tone and the way the format allows for the often-grim punchlines. I’ve requested art for canons where canon images don’t really exist and panels for ones that either are a visual medium or have a huge number of covers available.
Tarot Card: I don’t know much about tarot, but I really like the symbolism and the stylization they offer!
Finally, for all of the in-universe mediums, I love seeing what they reveal about their authors and their subjects. I’ve requested the ones which feel most fitting for each canon, but honestly I’d just like to see what you can do with them!

General likes
Stylistically, I particularly enjoy:
- Outsider POV
- Second and third person POV
- Pre- & post-canon fics
- 5 + 1 things
- Character studies
- Unreliable narrators
- In-universe documents of any kind
- Happy endings, ambiguous endings, & bittersweet endings, as well as endings that the narrator/character thinks are happy but the reader doesn’t
- Symbolism
- Art nouveau
- Art styles that mimic canon or in-universe forms of art (including ones like textiles)
- Moments that parallel each other through time
- Color contrasts
- The colors teal and orange
- Art which is monochrome except for one specific detail in (a different) color
- Characters (of any gender) being put into Very Pretty Dresses (I particularly enjoy long skirts)
- Gloves and masks and cloaks
- Fragmented images
- Mirrors
- Men with long hair
- Situations where a character is forced to reckon with perceptions of themselves or their relationships, including but certainly not limited to:
- time travel
- time loops
- amnesia
- dimension travel
- truth serum
- de-aging (both physical-only and physical-and-mental)
- bodyswaps
- Feelings realization
- Getting together
- Complicated relationships & complicated emotions
- Hard conversations
- Dramatic irony & the calm before the storm
- Identity porn
- Forced proximity
- Hurt/comfort
- Crack treated seriously
- When applicable to canon, queerphobia existing as a social structure, even if it doesn't come up interpersonally
- Period-typical and/or internalized homophobia
- Asexual and/or aromantic characters of any kind
- For trans characters, attention to how gender functions and is conceptualized in their society, what types of transition is or isn't available, how transition impacts ability to inherit (in relevant canons)
- I also like when nonbinary characters have a specific gender beyond "nonbinary," even when the label isn't mentioned in text
- Disabled characters (whether canonically or as a result of injuries/trauma that were fine in canon)
- Non-sexual kink, if it fits the canonical relationship dynamic
- Romance as horror & horror as romance
- Characters who are trying to hold it together but fraying at the edges
- Cracking a stoic character open like a clam (emotionally, though it can certainly be done through physical means)
- Emotionally significant names and titles (and thee/thou as a marker for intimacy where canon-appropriate)
- Relationships that are hard to classify or ping other characters as weird
- Characters who are torn between loyalty to an individual and their ideals
- Unresolvable moral conflicts between two characters/groups the reader is meant to find sympathetic
- Characters doing their best in tough situations, especially when "their best" is quite bad
- In-universe politics (for non-real world settings)
- Characters being betrayed by their bodies
- Coughing up blood
- Passing out dramatically in another character's arms
- Hiding (and failing to hide) medical issues
Smut likes
General themes I particularly like:
- Un(der)negotiated kink & kink discovery (as long as it’s not DNW’d, it doesn’t matter which specific kink it is)
- Porn as character study
- Top or Dom POV
- Bottom or sub POV
- Unresolved emotional tension & pining while fucking
- Repression & attempts to control the uncontrollable
- “Oh god why do I find this hot”-flavored sex of any consent level
- Kinking on shame (whether external or internal) and/or violating cultural taboos
- Kinking on inexperience (or pretended inexperience)
- Psychological aspects of kink
- Characters or worlds which believe penetration = dominance = masculinity and all the ways that can be subverted or upheld
- In this same vein, characters (especially men) getting off on their own passivity, particularly the mindset of being "acted upon"
- Sub tops with dom bottoms and/or submissive sadists with dominant masochists
- Same-generation incest
- Dubcon (defined here as "consent is ambiguous or not given, but everyone enjoys themselves")
- Characters who have (and like their) nullified genitals (whether natal/surgical/magical)
- Xeno genitals of any kind
- Characters justifying why the sex* they’re actively having doesn’t count as sex* & other intricate rituals-type things
- *or kink or incestuous relationship
- Sex that does not read as sex to characters outside the relationship
- Words used for genitalia that feel appropriate to the POV character (including archaic, vague, and clinical language)
- Voyeurism of any type
- Watersports
- Particularly pissing inside someone anally or vaginally, submissive wetting (including in non-omegaverse settings), and kinking on the sensation of pissing or watching someone else do so
- Proxy sex (examples for requested pairing A/B, where C is either a canonical character or an OC):
- A has sex with C while thinking about B
- an A/B/C threesome has C in the middle as an excuse to legitimize the sex A/B are(n’t) having
- A or C is monitoring and/or directing the couple having sex, including physically maneuvering them
- Non-penetrative sex & penetrative sex

- One character sitting in another's lap during (any form of) sex
- Collars
- Feminization, including for female characters
- Characters being told how wet they are, regardless of genitals/gender

- Monsterfucking & shapeshifting
- Biting & blood-drinking (especially in a supernatural context)
- Slapping the inside of a character's thigh to make them open their legs

- Abortion or miscarriage; unwanted or horrifying pregnancy
- Period sex
- Sex with sapient animals, or with a shapeshifter in animal form
- Vomiting (sexual or non-sexual)
- Infidelity (not between nominated pairing)
- Mentions or discussions of past canonical relationships
- For requested omegaverse, I love alpha/alpha and omega/omega pairings, and particularly enjoy when only one of multiple sapient species in a setting has dynamics

- How much of Devil’s Minion actually occurred in the IWTV-verse? (And how much did Armand and Louis still being together change how it played out?) Some possibilities which are all equally intriguing to me: all of it, none of it besides s2e5’s “locked in Armand’s basement” equivalent, it got postponed until the 2020s/post-season 2, or only some of it (say, Armand actually did get distracted for a bit after the initial chase since his attention was split between Daniel and Louis).
- Daniel at twenty-something is recognizable to Daniel at seventy-something, but holy shit is he so much more embarrassing in person. Is Daniel at seventy-something recognizable to Daniel at twenty-something?
- Also, if one of the Daniels is a vampire, what does the other Daniel think about that? What does the other Armand think about that?
- IWTV Armand was turned ten years after VC Armand. How do they feel about that?
- Do the Armands recognize each other as the same person, or conceptualize each other as occupying the role of ‘Armand,’ as created from scratch by trauma (to use a word that covers a very broad category of things)? Does Armand find it threatening or reassuring for someone to know his secrets?
- If sex is involved: what are the reactions to IWTV vampires having functioning genitalia? (What is IWTV Armand’s reaction to VC vampires not, in light of Louis’s line during their fight about Armand ‘pretending he didn’t have a dick for 250 years’?)

Tolkien-specific likes
- Ominous foreshadowing in otherwise light-hearted fics
- Politics, particularly relationships (sexual, romantic, queerplatonic, or platonic) as extensions of politics
- Messy and complicated family dynamics (incestuous or otherwise)
- The insane amount of time Elves are alive for and how that affects history for them and everyone else
- Grief and inevitability and memory
- Alien Maiar and Valar
- Setting-appropriate/plausible prejudice or baggage around gender, sexuality, disability, and race
- Post-Years of the Trees Valinor and the complexities of being re-embodied
- Religion and cultural traditions
